Stata® Programs

Some simple econometric applications implemented using Stata®. Before running a specific program, read it, in order to understand how to use it and which data you have to download from the Data Sets page. The download links are Stata® files.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION DOWNLOAD
CR Growth Program This do-file creates the data set growth.dta, using some of the ascii files contained in the Barro-Lee archive (see  NBER web site).
Gasoline.do This do-file uses the data set "gasoline.dta" to perform a regression analysis of the demand of gasoline.
Jordan Study Event This do-file uses the data set "gasoline.dta" to perform a regression analysis of the demand of gasoline.
Growth Program This do-file performs a set of growth regressions both in a cross-section and a panel framework, using the data set growth.dta.
Hedonic.do This do-file performs an hedonic price analysis of the housing market, exploiting the data set "Hedonic.dta".
Nafta.do This do-file performs different estimations of a traditional earnings function, exploiting the panel structure of the data contained in "wage.dta".
Whales.do This do-file analyzes Jeff Wilder's infamous whaling data. You are encouraged to analyze the data yourself and email interesting results to Jeff. (Be sure to also view Whales.log).

Data Sets

Some socio-economic data sets in Stata® format (.dta). They can be used to perform determined econometric applications (see the Stata® Programs).

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION DOWNLOAD
Cephs.csv This ascii file contains price and revenue series for five branded and one generic Cephalosporin. Data are comma delimited. Variable names appear in the first row.
Election.dta This Stata® data set contains stock market return data that can be used to perform an event study of how the turbulent election of George W. Bush affected the securities of various oil companies. (The data are also available in .csvformat, with a separate descriptionof the variables.)
Gasoline.dta This Stata® data set contains yearly observations on the consumption of gasoline, income and gasoline price, across 6 years. (The data are also available in .csvformat, with a separate descriptionof the variables.)
Growth.dta This Stata® data set contains country data drawn from the Barro-Lee archive, reporting statistical information for 121 countries in the period 1960-85.
Hedonic.dta  This Stata® data set contains yearly observations on the consumption of gasoline, income and gasoline price, across 6 years. (The data are also available in .csvformat, with a separate descriptionof the variables.)
Jordan.dta  This Stata® data set contains stock market return data that can be used to perform an event study to assess whether the retirement (and subsequent unretirement) of M.Jordan from basketball affected the securities of the companies advertised by him and/or the securities of competing companies. (The data are also available in .csvformat, with a separate descriptionof the variables.)
Nafta.dta  This Stata® data set contains information on the 87 Senators who voted on NAFTA as well as how they each voted. (The data are also available in .csvformat, with a separate descriptionof the variables.)
States.dta  This Stata® data set contains state-level employment, income, and education data for use in the analysis of NAFTA vote data. (The data are also available in .csvformat, with a separate descriptionof the variables.)
Wage.dta This Stata® data set contains individual data for a panel of male workers in the US and is used by the do-file "wage.do". Again, see the information in this file for data description.
Whales.dta  This Stata® data set was used by Jeff Wilder to write his graduate economic history paper. See the file "whales.do" for a discussion of the data.
Wine.dta  This Stata® data set contains auction prices and weather data for wine produced by chateaux located in the French wine region of Bordeaux.
